Another orbit around the sun is nearing its demise for this greenish-blue ball that manages to keep the human race alive.
Trying to make progress on a number of indoor projects, some digital, some not while the days are short and the weather bleh. Survived another year of DPR and my first full summer of maintaining the house. A lot of work, but worth it.
LANCLAN is nearing and Merry Fishmas to All!

And after a bit of reading, I moved pretty much everything over here.

Still hanging in there. Still planning on another Fishmas Time LANCLAN. :)

Haven't had much time to do computer stuff lately, other than the joy of upgrading a bunch of my Fedora boxen to 23 or 24 from as far back as Fedora 16.

Made it through to a new year!

This Christmas's LANCLAN was the typical mixed bag, but one of the earliest actual gaming starts ever. Another decade and we might actually be able to play when everyone arrives.
The LANParty in a can went fairly well, despite the gaming PC's video card fan dying. The UT2004 server also needs some tweaking to run in Player vs. Bots mode.

Came home to find out that I had in fact filled up my file server, so I got to learn how weird ZFS gets when it's full. I'm also looking at possible changing from ZFS on CentOS7 with a manually built share/permissions stack to possibly using OpenMediaVault with ZFS Plugins. In the meantime, it takes a fair while to back up ~6tb of data...

And a happy new beer!

Also, Faaa la laa laa laa, lanclan!

Making progress on the LAN PARTY in a can, got the main server put together and the gaming pc is finally stable!

LANCLAN- This weekend Sat 1700-Sun 1700
Reason for the slight delay: Working till 1300 and GO-KARTS in Saluda with my dad. If anyone else wants to ride the Karts give me a holler.

I'm sorry, but that means if they win they have the right to sue about 75% of the American populace. I hope the courts are smart enough to figure that one out.

I am considering trying to hold a LANCLAN on the weekend of May 19th and 20th running from 1600-1600 like I usually do. Anyone interested/can make it?

LanClan last weekend went surprisingly (ok scarily) smoothly. Alright, it went so smoothly that it was really damn scary. Anyways, there were many bots slain, larger numbers of zerg, protoss and terrans slain, a substantial quantity of soviets and allies slain with a few yuri's thrown in to boot, as well as two cases of soda.

There is a small fiscal issue that I need to get together with everyone on and that is a couple of small potential purchases for the group. I am looking at a few options to make things go slightly smoother and to make our lives easier.

Option A: We get the funds together for the following cables,

Vendor: Compuvest.com
8x Cat5 Red 25ft $8.31 ea. $66.48
8x Cat5 Red 50ft $10.13 ea. $81.04
$20.84 - UPS Ground
$168.36 Total

Vendor: Newegg.com
8x GENERIC Cat5 Red 25ft. $3.48 ea. $27.48
8x Link Depot Cat5 Red 50ft. $7.99 ea. $50.32
$23.19 FedEx Express Saver
$101.35 Total

Option B: We get the funds together to MAKE OUR OWN CABLES,

Vendor: Compuvest.com
Network Cable Bare Wire Bare Wire 1000ft UTP (Cat 5) Orange $89.71
Belkin Crimper Medium Duty with Die for RJ-45 F4F198 $22.74
Belkin Network Connector RJ-45 (M) 100-Pack R6G088R100 $25.46
UPS GROUND $29.16
TOTAL $167.07

Newegg.com

Option C: We attempt to go wireless.... I'll look up the prices for this one over the next couple of days because I need sleep.... ow leg hurt.. can't move.. later

LANCLAN still planned for July 8&9 starting at 1600 07/08/2006. Bring swimsuit and small donation for beverage (FOOD LION had a 4/$10 special plus a buy 4 get 1 free on 12 packs of Dew, so i bought some, its all green though, they were out of red). Oh yeah, don't forget your PC. With a crapload of luck, OVERMIND_MKIII will be functioning, if not BROODLING is still functional. I will try to give everyone a holler over the next few days.. Also, it might be a bit cramped because unless my mom gets the last 21 pieces in her 18500 piece puzzle we can't use the room over my garage... *sigh*

Laterz...
swarm32: (stalin kitten)
First of all, just went to the Market Pro Shows website... The July 1&2 computer show in richmond vanished... GRRR... Next one is scheduled to be about the same time i'm supposed to be checking into my dorm room at Norwich. I sent an email inquiring about this vanishment because on occasion they have dissapeared yet occured or been there and not occured.
Secondly, The OVERMIND MKIII is being assemble from the remains of OVERMIND MKI and a mound of miscellaneous hardware. Currentlty, I have 1 of 3 network cards that I installed working. If I can get an answer out of the people on the fedora forum as to how I can acquire the modules "ne" and "eexpress" I don't think I can get the other two to function. It also looks like I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting any of the modems I have to function.
Thirdly, the date had been configrmed by both parental units to be the weekend of 7/8, however, unless my mom finishes here 18500 piece puzzle by then, we will be in the garage, which is a little cramped (ask ratboy, trevafish or psycho/pyro joe)

Lastly, I need sleep ...
swarm32: (Cauldron Born)
I haven't said much in a while and i cant sleep... anyways... .I have a job in VA (YEAH!) Goin to cuputer show on 7/1 or 7/2 (YEAH). Planning to have LANCLAN 7/8 to 7/9 (double yeah)... i'll post some more interesting stuff when i finish fighting with Fedora Core 5 i386 and my horde of NE2000 and compatable network cards.. laters...

Yeah!!! I'm free from Norwich for the summer. First on my agenda, I am going to the FNM in Keene tonight. Second on my agenda, I am wondering if I have the slightest chance of organizing a LAN party for next weekend (May 20-21 or 19-20) back home in VA.... I guess I should get working on that lastly, I need to leave in about two minutes so I can buy a Mother's Day Card because I don't wanna die.

I'll rant more later I think.

Time for geekdom to beat me over the head. But, first of all a few little things.
Firefox 1.5 has been released. The biggest difference I've noticed so far is the way the menus look.
Recently I was introduced to a little program called HLSW. Its spiffy because it can detect most First Person SHooter LAN games and makes it easy to hop in. I'd like it even more if the campus LAN weren't so fucking restrictive!

ANyways, Late last night the core geeks of LANCLan had a chat. Well, most of them. Decided was a party the WEdsneday after Christmas and a second starting on the 6 or 7th of January. All parties are currently planned to go frmon 1600 to 1600.

That is all for now.
